Today's Frame

How and why does ancient Greek philosophy attempt to explain the world? (please note that the word "philosophy" is Greek in origin... Just like architecture, politics, democracy, etc., etc. (et cetera is Latin in origin)...

Greek Architecture

Classical Greek architecture is alive.  Look at cities and towns around the world and you will see elements everywhere- including in Deerfield and certainly Chicago.  Why do we still embrace an architectural style that is well over 2,000 years old?  What does that say about Greek civilization?  What does that say about us?

HOMEWORK

Remember that homework Reading Notes must be organized thematically, and cannot include complete sentences.  For full credit, you must 1) "merge" class notes with the actual Reading Notes doc. so that it correseponds with the material being covered and contextualized further in class.   2) Organize the "merged" document later (possibly at night) so that it is not repetitive and that frames/targets are clearly shown.  Our curriculum is being shaped and learned continuously, and homework, class notes, class discussions, and lectures should not be considered "final products" to be turned in; instead they should always be considered works in progress- just like you and me- and the rest of humanity.

HW for Friday

Well... there is no new reading following the Unit 1 Test.  But, I higly encourage you to spend some time looking over Activity Points that have been posted to this site under the "Activity Points" tab.  We will discuss them briefly in class on Friday.  They will be due Tues., 10/28 to turnitin.com (more on that later)...

Unit 1 Test Prep/Review

3rd period and 6th periods' testing times will be regular full periods (3rd will be 56 mins. rather than 57, which is negligible).

Please check your Gmail for student-created Review Sheet Templates.  Once you open it, be sure to go to "File" and then "Make a Copy"; that way you can write on it and "merge" it with your own notes from class.  Remember not to cram!  45 mins. or an hour of studying over a few days is much better than cramming for 4 hours the night before...
